At least 20 people have suffered injuries in a clash between rival groups in the Saltha and Boalmari Upazilas of Faridpur.

The unrest, which broke out on Saturday, reportedly involved arson and the widespread vandalism of homes.

Army personnel and police were deployed to the scene to restore order.

Law enforcement has since detained several individuals in connection with the violence.

According to Faridpur Assistant Police Superintendent (Saltha-Nagarkanda Circle) Mahmudul Hasan, the clash occurred between 10am and 11am near Moyendia Bazar, located on the border of the two Upazilas.

While the identities of the injured have not yet been confirmed, local sources suggest the skirmish was the result of a long-standing feud over influence and grievances related to voting in the recent elections.

Police and witnesses report that the conflict involved supporters of Parameshwardi Union Parishad chairman Mannan Matubbar and two individuals named Tulu Mia and Jihad Mia from Saltha’sa Khardia village.

The two factions reportedly attacked one another with improvised local weapons.

During the height of the confrontation, several houses were ransacked and set on fire.

The authorities moved quickly to quell the fighting, though representatives from both factions have remained tight-lipped.

Local leaders could not be reached for comment as their mobile phones were found switched off.
