A young man has allegedly been stabbed to death in Lohagara, Narail, after being lured out of his home on the pretext of receiving money he was owed.
The incident took place around 9:30pm on Saturday at the playground of Kumardanga Government Primary School, said Inspector (Investigation) Ajit Kumar Roy of Lohagara Police Station.
The victim, Alinur Fakir, 30, was a native of Kumardanga village in Itna Union of the Upazila. He worked as a mason.
The victim's brother, Aminur Fakir, said that Rajib Sheikh, who hailed from the same village, had borrowed Tk 18,000 from Alinur on the 15th day of Ramadan.
Despite repeated requests over a long period, Rajib had failed to repay the money.
According to Aminur, on Saturday night Rajib and members of his family called both brothers to the Kumardanga Government Primary School playground, saying they would return the money.
"When we arrived, Rajib Sheikh and his family members suddenly attacked us. Before we could understand what was happening, they stabbed Alinur in the abdomen, leaving him critically injured," Aminur said.
Local residents rushed Alinur to Lohagara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Inspector Ajit said the body had been sent to Narail District Hospital for a post-mortem. Police are trying to arrest those involved in the killing.
He added that additional police had been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
