Man arrested for ‘rape’ of teenage daughter in Netrokona

Police say the girl is currently six months pregnant

Police have arrested the father of a 16-year-old girl on charges of raping her in Netrokona’s Purbadhala. The girl is currently six months pregnant, police said.

A case was filed on Wednesday, said Purbadhala Police chief Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun.

The 48-year-old arrestee is a resident of an Ashrayan Project in the Upazila.

Police official Mamun said the man had been brutally abusing his daughter through threats of violence for a long time.

Locals grew suspicious after noting the girl’s physical changes for some time and informed the police station on Wednesday morning.

Police were quickly dispatched to the scene and rescued the victim. Legal proceedings, including the filing of a case based on the victim’s statement, were initiated. A drive was then conducted and the girl's father was arrested on Wednesday evening.

The arrestee will be taken to the Purbadhala Administrative Court in Netrokona on Thursday, Mamun said.
