Amidst a growing fuel crisis triggered by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, a tanker carrying 27,000 tonnes of diesel has arrived at Chittagong Port.

The vessel “Yuan Xing He” docked at the port’s Dolphin Jetty around noon, confirmed Port Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim.

The refined diesel was supplied by Unipac Singapore Pte Ltd.

According to port officials, a second vessel “Shan Gang Fa Jian” is expected to reach Chattogram waters by Friday night.

It is transporting another 30,000 tonnes of refined diesel from Malaysia.

The arrivals follow the recent docking of the PVT Solana last Tuesday, which brought 30,000 tonnes of diesel.

Unloading from that vessel has already been completed.

Bangladesh’s annual fuel requirement stands between 6.5 million and 6.8 million tonnes.

While the country is currently grappling with supply chain disruptions due to the Middle East situation, only 20 percent of its total demand is met by importing crude oil from that region.

The remaining 80 percent is imported as refined fuel from seven countries, including Singapore, China, India, Indonesia, and Malaysia.
