A total of 1,237 sanitation workers of the Rajshahi City Corporation have received financial assistance from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman before Eid-ul-Fitr.

The grants were distributed on Tuesday at the Green Plaza of the Nagar Bhaban by the corporation’s administrator Mahfuzur Rahman Riton.

Each worker received Tk 5,000, taking the total disbursement to Tk 6.19 million.

Many of the workers said this was the first time they had received such Eid support.

Speaking at the event, Riton expressed gratitude to the prime minister and said the initiative was meant to recognise the efforts of sanitation workers who keep the city clean.

He added that work on urban development had begun following his assumption of office, with plans to build a more modern, clean and liveable Rajshahi.

The programme also paid tribute to those killed in the July Uprising in Rajshahi, with condolences extended to their families.

Sanitation worker Rajibul Islam said, “It will help us celebrate Eid with some comfort and motivate us in our work,” he said.
