Former International Crimes Tribunal prosecutor Tureen Afroz has been shown arrested in a case filed at the Vatara Police Station involving fraud and assault.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan made the decision after hearing a petition by the Police Bureau of Investigation, the agency in charge of the fraud and assault case.
Defence lawyer Morshed Hossain Shaheen confirmed his client had been implicated in the case.
He said a bail petition filed in favour of his client was not entertained by the court.
The case stated Tureen bought two buses from a businessman named Manzur Alam Nahid on Jul 1, 2021 with the condition to pay the price of Tk 7.8 million in instalments. But Tureen stopped making payments after paying Tk 4.8 million.
The case alleged Tureen threatened Manzur on Mar 29, 2022, when he requested her to pay the outstanding dues.
On Apr 5, 2022, Tureen and her driver Amir Hossain, along with 20 to 25 others, stormed into the Bashundhara residence of Manzur and vandalised belongings worth Tk 3.2 million. They also beat up Manzur, who later filed a case the same year.
PBI was ordered to investigate the case.
Police arrested Tureen from her Uttara residence on Apr 7. She stands accused in multiple cases.
