A court has ordered Gazipur police to see whether there was any negligence on the part of police in investigating allegations against July activist Tahrima Jannat Surovi.

The court also directed the district police to take action if any negligence or irregularities are found in the investigation of the case against Surovi.

Gazipur Senior Judicial Magistrate Syed Fazlul Mahdi passed the order on Thursday.

Kaliakair Police chief Khandaker Nasir Uddin said a written order has been sent to the Gazipur Police chief.

The order comes amid controversies over Surovi’s recent remand and bail.

Surovi was arrested on Dec 25 on charges of extortion. She was denied bail on Dec 28.

On Jan 5, Surovi was placed on a two-day remand. The remand was later cancelled, and she was given bail following social media controversy over allowing her remand, mainly considering her age.

Sub Inspector Omar Faruk of the Mouchal Police Outpost under Kaliakair Police Station had investigated the extortion case filed against Surovi.
