Dipu Moni’s daughter has urged the government to parole the former education minister seven days on compassionate grounds, citing her husband’s “serious health condition”.
Her daughter Tani Deepavali Nawaz made application to the Munshiganj deputy commissioner on Wednesday.
Dipu Moni, a suspect in multiple cases filed over killings and a crackdown during the July Uprising, is currently held at Munshiganj District Jail.
According to the plea, her lawyer husband Tawfique Nawaz is in a critical condition.
He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka and is reported to be suffering from cancer, liver disease, and complications following a stroke.
It added that Dipu Moni has been in prison for around 21 months and has been unable to support her husband during his illness.
“In this critical moment, her presence beside her husband and supervision of his treatment have become extremely important and necessary” the application said.
Citing humanitarian considerations, the plea requests her temporary release on licence for seven days so she may remain with her husband during treatment and be present if his condition deteriorates.
