Clothing trader shot dead in Khulna

Police say the motive for the killing is not immediately clear and an investigation is under way

A clothing trader has been shot dead in Khulna's Rupsha Upazila.

The killing took place around 10:30pm on Sunday near the eastern end of the Rupsha Bridge in front of the Jabusa Autogas Filling Station, according to police.

The victim was identified as 30-year-old Sagar Sheikh, a resident of the Green Bangla Housing area.

Citing witnesses, Rupsha Police Station chief (OC) Mahfuzur Rahman said several men called Sagar out of his home before shooting him in the head and fleeing the scene.

Local residents took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to OC Mahfuzur.

He added that the motive for the killing was not immediately clear and that an investigation was under way.
