Police have reported the death of a sports journalist in a motorcycle accident on the slope of Dhaka’s Khilgaon Flyover.

Zahir Bhuiya, 53, served as a senior reporter for the daily Vorer Pata.

He lived with his family at Basabo, while his ancestral home is in Chabitola village, Muradnagar Upazila, Cumilla.

The crash occurred on Sunday around noon while he was travelling from home to his office in Karwanbazar. He was initially taken to Mugda Hospital and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Inspector Md Faruk, chief of the hospital police camp, confirmed that doctors declared him dead at 5pm.

At the hospital, Zahir’s son Rakib Bhuiya Tamim said: “A few minutes after my father left for the office, passersby called to inform us of the accident.

“When we reached Mugda Hospital, he was in critical condition. On doctors’ advice, he was transferred to DMCH, where he passed away shortly after.”

Rakib added, “I have heard that he lost control of his bike on the slope of the Khilgaon Flyover. We do not have any more details yet.”

Inspector Faruk noted that the body is at the hospital morgue for postmortem examination.
