Five people have been killed and several others injured after a passenger bus rammed into a stationary pickup truck in Faridpur's Bhanga Upazila
The accident occurred around 8pm on Saturday in the Suadi area on the Dhaka-Khulna Highway, said Bhanga Highway Police chief Helal Uddin.
The identities of the victims were not immediately available.
Police said the pickup truck had broken down and was parked on the highway when the Khulna-bound Narail Express bus from Dhaka slammed into it at high speed.
Following the crash, an agitated mob set the bus on fire, completely destroying the vehicle, he said.
The incident temporarily disrupted traffic on the highway.
Police, firefighters and local residents rushed to the scene and rescued the injured, who were taken to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
Police later brought the situation under control and restored traffic on the highway.
Helal Uddin said efforts were underway to identify the victims and determine the exact cause of the accident.
