An infant with measles symptoms has died in the Sylhet Division, taking the potential death toll from the highly-contagious disease in the region to 58.
The death was recorded between Thursday morning and Friday morning while the child was undergoing treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, according to Mohammad Noor Alam Shamim, assistant director of the Sylhet unit of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The 9-month-old deceased, identified by a single name as Arim, hailed from Sunamganj’s Chhatak Upazila.
According to the DGHS, the division saw 205 patients with measles symptoms at different hospitals between 8am on Thursday and 8am on Friday.
Of them, 18 patients were admitted.
Data from the DGHS says that 165 laboratory confirmed cases of measles have been recorded in the division from Jan 1 to May 28.
