There will be no hearing on the writ asking the High Court to free the quota reform protest coordinators in the custody of the police Detective Branch and an order to stop law enforcers from using bullets as one of the judges was absent.

The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon were to decide on the petition after a hearing on Wednesday.

Court officials said that Justice Dolon had taken ill and so the court had not held the hearing.

After two days of hearing, Wednesday was set as the date for the decision. Journalists and lawyers crowded the court in anticipation. But when the issue was to be brought before the court, those gathered were informed that the junior justice was on leave.

Advocates Sara Hossain, Anik R Haque, Manzur Al Matin Pritom and Ainu Nahar Siddika Lipi were present in court to represent the petitioning side. Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, Additional Attorney General SM Munir, Additional Attorney General Sheikh Md Morshed, and Additional Attorney General Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury were present to represent the state.

Supreme Court Advocates Pritom and Ainun Nahar Siddiqa Lipi presented the petition calling for the freeing of the quota protest coordinators and an order to halt firing.

The cabinet secretary, home secretary, inspector general of police, army chief, and others were named as the respondents.

The initial petition was heard on Monday and Tuesday was set as the date for the decision. But, as the two sides had not completed their arguments, a new date was set for Wednesday.

Due to the absence of the judge, the hearing was not led on Wednesday.
