Two more people with symptoms of dengue have died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Dr Mohammad Mainuddin Khan, assistant director (administration) of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, said one of them died around 4:30am on Monday, while the other died around 8:30pm on Sunday.
The dead were identified as Rashida Khatun, 42, from Bhaluka Upazila of Mymensingh, and Zafar Ali, 70, from the Jaina Bazar area of Sreepur Upazila in Gazipur.
Mainuddin said that Rashida was admitted to the hospital on Sept 11 with symptoms of dengue. She died around 8:30pm on Sunday.
Zafar was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of dengue on Sept 13. He died around 4:30am on Monday.
A total of 2,178 people have been admitted to hospitals with dengue this year, and 18 of them have died, Mainuddin said.
He said 55 new dengue patients were admitted to the hospital in the past 24 hours. During the same period, 58 patients recovered and were discharged.
Currently, 131 patients are admitted to the dengue isolation ward.
He said there is no alternative to public awareness in preventing dengue.
