A well-marked low over the west-central Bay of Bengal is set to trigger a spell of heavy to very heavy rain across Bangladesh.
Alongside the downpours, gusty wind is expected to sweep across the maritime ports, north Bay and adjoining coastal areas, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) warned on Wednesday.
Consequently, the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal No. 3.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the north Bay have been advised to stay near the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Heavy rainfall has lashed parts of Bangladesh since Tuesday midnight.
The Met Office recorded 203mm of rainfall in Dhaka over the past 24 hours -- the highest in the country.
Of this, 132mm of rain fell between Tuesday midnight and 6am on Wednesday, the most in a six-hour timeframe.
Weather watchers said the wet spell is likely to continue until Oct 4. Additionally, they have urged authorities to take necessary measures, warning of potential waterlogging in major cities and landslides in the country's hill tracts.
