Housewife hacked to death in Narail, husband detained

Her family alleges that Sakib Sheikh was a drug addict and the couple often had domestic fights

A housewife visiting her relative’s house has been hacked to death in Narail.

The family has detained the husband and handed him over to the police.

The incident took place in Bahirgram early on Wednesday, said Ajay Kumar, inspector of the Sadar Police Station.

The deceased, Chandni Akhter Khadija, 20, hailed from Khulna's Fultala Upazila. Her husband, Sakib Sheikh, 25, hailed from Damodar Madhyapara in the same Upazila. They have a four-year-old child.

The police officer said that the couple went to visit the husband’s uncle Nikamal Sheikh on Monday evening. After dinner on Tuesday, they went to sleep.

The family alleges that Sakib was a drug addict and the couple often had domestic fights. Sakib allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp kitchen tool around 1am on Wednesday, injuring her critically.

Relatives rushed her to the hospital, where the doctor declared her dead.

Alok Kumar Bagchi, a physician at the district hospital, said that a woman named Khadija was brought to the emergency department, but had died of serious injuries before being reaching the hospital.

Inspector Ajay said that Sakib was arrested and brought to the police station. The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to the district hospital morgue. Further legal action is under way over the incident.
