The chief of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch has been changed again. A month after the appointment of Md Ashrafuzzaman after the removal of Harunor Rashid, Rezaul Karim Mallick has taken charge as the new DB chief.
DMP Commissioner Md Mainul Islam issued an office order assigning Mallick, the additional commissioner of DB, as the new chief of the specialised police unit of sleuths on Sunday.
In an order on Jul 31, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman transferred Harun and appointed Ashrafuzzaman, additional commissioner of DMP's Logistics and Finance Division, to head the Detective Branch.
However, the activities of police came to a halt after the collapse of the government on Aug 5. There has been a major reshuffle in the force, including the IGP and the police commissioner.
Many police officers, including police commissioner Habibur Rahman, were sent to compulsory retirement.
Mallick, an officer from the 17th BCS batch, joined the Bangladesh Police in 1998. He served at the force’s Criminal Investigation Department, or CID.
