A 55-year-old man injured in a fire at a petrol and CNG refuelling station in Dhaka’s Mohakhali has died.

The victim, identified as Mir Hossain, died around 2:45pm on Saturday while receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, resident surgeon Shawon Bin Rahman said.

“He had burns on 45 percent of his body and had been in intensive care,” he said.

The blaze broke out at Eureka Enterprise near Mohakhali Railgate on Aug 17, according to Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Ten firefighting units rushed to the site and brought the flames under control half an hour later with support from two Air Force teams.

Eureka employee Al Amin said the fire had erupted as fuel was being transferred from a vehicle to an underground tank.

The flames were visible from afar, with Universal Medical College adjacent to the site and the RAOWA Club across the road.
