Two former ministers, Anisul Huq and Rashed Khan Menon, have been sent to jail following a five-day questioning in the Mehedi Hasan murder case in Dhaka's Jatrabari during the July Uprising.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Kausar Hossain of Jatrabari Police Station, the case’s investigation officer, presented them in court on Saturday and requested their detention in jail.

Following the plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul Hasan passed the order.

SI Md Sharifuzzaman from the Prosecution Divison said the court had approved five days of custodial questioning on Jan 20, which the investigation officer carried out on Aug 20.

On the evening of Jul 18, 2024, Mehedi, a journalist for the Dhaka Times, was shot dead near the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Jatrabari’s Kajla.

According to the case dossier, Mehedi was killed by gunfire from police and Awami League leaders and activists.
