A tourist who went missing in the Sangu River in Bandarban's Thanchi Upazila has been found dead a day later.
Rescuers recovered the body after it surfaced near Tindumukh of the river on Sunday morning, according to Thanchi Fire Service and Civil Defence Station Leader Peyar Mahmud.
The deceased was identified as 24-year-old Md Jawad ul Islam from Tarail Upazila in Kishoreganj.
Jawad went missing on Friday after an engine-powered boat carrying six tourists capsized in the Bondpathar stretch of the Sangu River while travelling from Tindu to Remakri.
He was among a 13-member tourist group split between two boats, accompanied by two guides.
The boat struck a rock in strong currents and overturned. Five passengers swam to safety, but Jawad disappeared beneath the water.
Rescuers searched throughout Saturday without success.
Early on Sunday, locals reported a body floating near the accident site. Firefighters recovered it from the spot where the boat had capsized, Thanchi Fire Service Station Leader Peyar Mahmud said.
Following the incident, authorities suspended all boat services between Thanchi Sadar and Tindumukh until Jul 30, citing dangerous river conditions.
