Two accused men have escaped while being transferred back to prison following a court appearance in Chattogram.
According to police, the incident occurred on Tuesday outside the holding cell on the ground floor of the district court building.
One of the escapees, Iqbal Hossain Imon, is accused in a murder case under the jurisdiction of Lohagara Police Station, while the other, Anwar Hossain, faces narcotics charges filed by Sitakunda Police Station.
Police said the two men had been brought from jail to the court earlier that day. After their hearings, they were placed in the holding cell, from where they managed to flee.
The duo fled while being brought out with other detainees for the journey back to the jail.
Md Russell, additional superintendent of Police (DB and Media) for Chattogram, told bdnews24.com that a search operation is underway and the matter is being thoroughly investigated.
