The Election Commission (EC) has served a show-cause notice on TS Ayub, who secured a nomination from the BNP to run for parliament from the Jashore-4 constituency.

Bagharpara Upazila administrator (UNO) Bhupali Sarkar, who is also the assistant returning officer, served the notice on Monday, giving the candidate two days to reply.

The notice accused Ayub of breaching the electoral code of conduct by taking out a procession at Roypur as part of his election campaign.

Ayub said he already responded to the show cause notice.

The EC has set Feb 12 as the date for the general election and the referendum on implementing the July Charter.
