Controversial singer Mainul Ahsan Noble has been accused of assaulting a young woman just a day after she assisted him in securing bail in a fraud and harassment case.
The complainant, Ananya Shabnam Rose, brought the allegations before reporters at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court premises on Thursday.
She appeared at court with her mother and sister to seek legal advice on cancelling Noble’s bail.
"He secured bail by pleading and crying, but as soon as we reached home, he started beating me again for filing the case against him," Ananya said, showing reporters several bruise marks on her left arm.
Noble was arrested on Monday in Narayanganj in connection with a case involving the embezzlement of Tk 1.3 million and an attempt to film Ananya against her will -- a case she filed in August last year.
On Tuesday, the court granted him bail until Apr 2 after both Noble and Ananya told the judge of their intent to settle the matter through a compromise.
Ananya’s lawyer, Sajidul Islam, noted that they did not oppose the bail at the time because Noble had promised to marry her.
However, Ananya’s mother Bibi Kulsum alleged that the singer’s demeanour shifted immediately after his release.
"He took my daughter to his house and assaulted her throughout the night of Feb 25," Kulsum claimed. "We have video evidence and will take further legal action soon."
The case also names Noble’s mother, his wife, and two associates as suspects.
A Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) probe previously found the allegations to be true, leading to the arrest warrant issued against the singer on Feb 2.
