The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) says it has received fresh allegations that former interim government advisor Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain laundered Tk 110 billion abroad.
He is also accused of Tk 18.7 billion in transactions over four appointments at Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka WASA, LGED and Gazipur City Corporation, including Tk 6 billion for appointing Dhaka North’s administrator.
Other allegations include Tk 20 million to Tk 100 million for posting 36 deputy commissioners, commissions of 10-30 percent from development project tenders, and irregularities in recruitment, transfers and promotions.
ACC Assistant Director for Public Relations Tanzir Ahmed told reporters on Sunday that the fresh allegations would be added to an existing inquiry into Asif.
The allegations include inflating costs in rural infrastructure, bridge construction, the Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant and Sheikh Rasel Mini Stadium projects.
The latter allegedly involved Tk 12 billion in inflated costs. A Tk 4.53 billion allocation for a rural infrastructure project in Asif’s home at Muradnagar has also been questioned.
Tanzir said Asif allegedly moved “huge sums” to Portugal, Dubai, Singapore, Australia and Swiss banks.
The allegations put the amounts at Tk 45 billion in Dubai, Tk 30 billion in Singapore, Tk 20 billion in Australia and Tk 15 billion in Switzerland.
His father, APS and PO are also accused of controlling contractor syndicates, lobbying over bribes and abusing power.
The graft watchdog said the allegations remain under investigation and have not been proven.
The commission had opened a probe against Asif and three others on Sept 2 over alleged irregularities in youth and sports ministry appointments, transfers and promotions.
Asif rejected the allegations on Sept 9, calling the probe a “media trial” and political harassment.
He also challenged specific allegations concerning promotions and acting appointments, and later sent a legal notice to an ACC official demanding withdrawal of a statement that “preliminary truth” had been found.
Asif served as youth advisor from 2024 and later took charge of local government, rural development and cooperatives.
He resigned on Dec 10, 2025, and later joined the National Citizen Party as its spokesperson.
