Former law minister Anisul Huq, former social welfare minister Dipu Moni and Sheikh Hasina’s advisor Salman F Rahman have been formally arrested in an attempted murder case linked to the July Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order on Wednesday following a petition filed by the investigating officer of the case.

Sub-Inspector Md Golam Kibria Khan of Badda Police Station submitted the application on Dec 24, seeking their arrest in the case.

The court fixed Wednesday for a hearing in the presence of the accused.

Assistant Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon said the three were produced before the court in the morning.

After hearing the petition, the court ordered that they be arrested in the case.

According to the case statement, Durjoy Ahmed was shot on Jul 20, 2024, at the Post Office alley in Central Badda.

He subsequently lost both eyes and sustained severe injuries to the back of his head.

The injured man received treatment at several hospitals, the case documents say.

Durjoy later filed the case against 90 people, including deposed prime minister Hasina.

Anisul, Dipu Moni and Salman are also among the accused named in the case.
