Outgoing Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus has congratulated newly elected Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
Yunus congratulated the BNP chairman after he was sworn in as the country’s 11th prime minister on Tuesday.
In a significant break from tradition, the swearing-in ceremony took place at the South Plaza of parliament, instead of the Bangabhaban.
The ceremony opened with the national anthem, followed by a Quran recitation.
Tarique then took the oath for the Prime Minister’s Office and the confidentiality pledge from President Mohammed Shahabuddin, signing both to complete the process.
The president then administered the oath of office and the confidentiality pledge to the newly appointed ministers.
Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani called the state ministers to the stage, announced their names and invited them to take their oaths.
The ceremony concluded with the state ministers taking the oath and signing the official register.
Tarique is forming his government with 25 ministers and 24 state ministers following his party’s landslide victory in the Feb 12 election. The cabinet includes 41 first-timers.
Three days after Sheikh Hasina was ousted in the July Uprising in 2024, an interim government led by Yunus assumed office on Aug 8, 2024.
Yunus governed the country for nearly 18 months before the new administration took over.
