Two factions of students have clashed at the Government-Madrasah-e-Alia in Old Dhaka’s Bakshibazar in several stages.

Several students have reportedly been injured in the incident, which started around midnight on Saturday, according to Sub-Inspector Ashraful Islam of the Chawkbazar Police Station.

Additional police and Army personnel were deployed to the area around 12am when the incident was reported, he said.

SI Ashraful said, “Two factions of students were engaged in chases and counter-chases. The situation returned to normal when police and Army personnel came.”

He said the madrasa area had returned to “normal” around 2:30am on Sunday.

However, the police official could not confirm the cause of the clash.

SI Ashraful said, “We have heard that there was some trouble between two groups of students. We have not heard of any outside forces being involved.”
