Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has reached Sreemangal to inaugurate a Family Card distribution programme for women, as part of a day-long visit to Moulvibazar.
He arrived at the stage of the Victoria High School grounds after 1pm on Wednesday, where the Ministry of Social Welfare is distributing the cards among local women.
Earlier, the BNP chief flew from Dhaka and landed at Sylhet's MAG Osmani International Airport, before travelling onward to Sreemangal by road.
He had left his Gulshan residence for the airport around 9:30am, Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said.
After the Sreemangal event, Tarique will attend a second Family Card distribution at the Moulvibazar High School ground at 2:30pm, followed by a public rally.
From there, he will attend a party leaders' meeting at DuSai Resort before leaving for Sylhet in the afternoon to fly back to the capital the same night.
This is Tarique's first visit to Moulvibazar as prime minister.
He had last been to the district on the campaign trail on Feb 12, before BNP secured a parliamentary majority.
He returned to Bangladesh on Dec 25 last year after more than 15 years in London.
