A Dhaka court has issued an arrest warrant for four people, including two sons of Chattogram-6 MP Gias Uddin Quader Chowdhury, for allegedly beating up an industrialist's wife and children while “occupying” his apartment in the capital's Gulshan.

Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sefatullah passed the order, cancelling their bail on Wednesday following an application by the plaintiff in the case, which also accuses the suspects of vandalism and looting during the alleged attack.

The sons of the lawmaker are Sameer Quader Chowdhury and Shakir Quader Chowdhury. The others facing the warrant are Marina Irshad and Ashiqur Rahman.

The MP, better-known as Gias Quader - a central vice-president of the BNP - is also a suspect in the case filed on Sept 8 last year.

Plaintiff's lawyer Zakir Hossain Jewel said nine out of the 15 suspects appeared before the court.

However, Gias Quader and his security guard Rakib Chowdhury could not attend the hearing due to the parliament session, he said, adding that he did not oppose their absence on “reasonable grounds”.

But Jewel pleaded for the scrapping of the bail of Sameer, Shakir, Marina and Ashikur as they skipped the pre-scheduled court session despite being in Chattogram.

Farzana Anna Islam, the wife of late industrialist Mainul Islam, filed the case, prompting a court to order the CID to investigate the incident and submit a report.

The case claims that after Mainul’s death on Mar 24, 2008, the suspects tried to occupy the first floor of the industrialist’s multi-storey building in Gulshan Model Town through forged documents.

On Jul 14, 2025, they again entered the house and tried to break the locks of the apartments and take over. They demanded Tk 50 million as extortion, while threatening Farzana with “dire consequences”.

In the case, Farzana said: "On Aug 28, they again stormed into the house, attacked and injured the people inside. They took away Tk 1 million in cash and 10 bhori (116.64 grammes) of gold ornaments.

“They threatened to take over the apartments if Tk 50 million was not paid. While leaving, they vandalised the garage, causing losses worth about Tk 30 million,” she added.

In an immediate reaction to the case, Sameer rejected the allegations and described the lawsuit as “fabricated”.
