Police have charged batons and dispersed HSC candidates demonstrating outside parliament for the education minister's resignation.

Police moved in on the protesters around 6:30pm on Tuesday, eventually chasing the students and causing them to scatter.

About 30 minutes earlier, the candidates had gathered near the Bottola Gate beside Manik Mia Avenue, blocking both carriageways and bringing traffic between Asad Gate and Khamarbari to a standstill.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station chief Monirul Islam said, "Students have marched to Manik Mia Avenue and occupied the road, disrupting traffic. Additional police have been deployed."

Roughly half an hour after the blockade began, police moved in to clear the protesters and dismantled the barricades they had erected.
