Joint forces have seized a significant quantity of illegally stockpiled fuel following a raid on the Jamuna petroleum depot in Mongla, Bagerhat.
The facility’s manager has been suspended in the wake of the operation.
According to a media statement issued Sunday by Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon, spokesperson for the Mongla Coast Guard West Zone, the operation commenced at 1am on Sunday.
The joint task force -- comprising the Coast Guard, Navy, police, National Security Intelligence (NSI), and the district administration -- targeted Jamuna Petroleum Ltd in the Mongla oil installation area.
The authorities found 12,613 litres of excess fuel illegally stored in three oil tanks at the facility.
The market value of the seized fuel is Tk 1.2 million.
A senior official of Jamuna Oil Company Ltd said the depot manager Md Al Amin has been suspended and issued a show-cause notice.
Another notice said that Samit Barua, deputy manager of the company’s Daulatpur depot in Khulna, has been assigned as the officer in charge of the Mongla oil installation.
The company added that a committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
