A video showing a man hanging by his feet from the upper railing of former president Ziaur Rahman’s mausoleum in Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar has circulated widely on social media.
Many Awami League supporters shared the clip, claiming one of their workers had been “killed and hanged".
Police said the man had climbed the mausoleum intending to commit suicide. Bystanders rescued him, took him to hospital for treatment, and he later returned home.
The seven-second video, shared on Facebook on Friday, shows the man dangling by his feet while holding the rope with one hand. Onlookers watch from below, and a voice in the clip says: “He got stabbed in the stomach, blood is coming out.”
Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police chief Emaul Haque told bdnews24.com: “I have heard that someone went there with a knife intending to commit suicide. I do not have detailed information. No complaint has been lodged at our station.”

Asked whether police visited the site, he said: “Several police units operate nearby. No complaint was filed at the station regarding this.”
Tejgaon Division Deputy Commissioner Ibne Mizan said, “Someone went there to commit suicide. People persuaded him to come down. He was then taken to hospital, received preliminary treatment, and later returned home.
“Police are investigating and trying to identify him,” he added.
