Body of missing teen girl found in Narail river

Locals have recovered the body of a teenage girl who went missing while bathing in the Madhumati River in Narail’s Lohagara Upazila.

Sheikh Shaha Alam, a member of Ward No. 2 of Kotakol Union 10 of the Upazila, said that locals recovered the body from Kumardanga Char Ichakhali around 10:30am on Tuesday.

The teenager, Seema Khanam, 14, hailed from the neighbouring Itna village. She lived in her grandmother Nurjahan Begum's house in Notunpara of Ghagha village. Family members said she had a mental disability.

Seema had gone to bathe in the Madhumati River with her grandmother on Sunday evening. At one point, she was swept away by the strong current of the river, Alam told bdnews24.com.

After that, family members and locals searched extensively but could not find any trace of Seema. Later, when they informed the Lohagara Fire Service, they also conducted a search but could not find her.

Lohagara Fire Service Station Officer Sohaguzzaman said, "The diving team from the Khulna Fire Service reached the spot on Monday morning and searched until evening, but the missing girl Seema was not found. Later, the rescue operation was declared complete."
