Police have recovered the bodies of a woman and her 5-year-old son from their residence in the capital’s Khilgaon, in what investigators believe is a case of murder-followed-by-suicide triggered by a "domestic feud".
The dead have been identified as 35-year-old Nargis and her son, Mahim, both known with a single name.
Nargis’s husband is a CNG autorickshaw driver.
Khilgaon Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Rafiqul Islam said officers reached the house after being notified by locals on Friday afternoon.
He said the child’s throat had been slit, and the woman was found with marks around her neck consistent with hanging.
Preliminary findings suggest that following a dispute with her husband, Nargis allegedly killed her son before taking her own life.
"A thorough investigation is under way to determine the exact circumstances behind the deaths," Rafiqul added.
The Criminal Investigation Department visited the spot to collect evidence, and the bodies were sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for postmortem on Friday evening.
