Police have recovered the body of a 27-year-old female doctor from a residential unit above Aziz Super Market at Dhaka's Shahbagh.

The deceased, Farah Ferdous, was undergoing postgraduate training in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Bangladesh Medical University.

Shahbagh Police chief Md Moniruzzaman said her body was recovered from a room on the 13th floor of the building.

The officer said preliminary findings suggest she may have died after suffering a stroke.

He, however, said a postmortem will confirm the reason behind the death.

"The family could not contact her for three days. Failing to reach her over the phone, they went to her room on Friday and found her body on the bed,” said Officer Moniruzzaman.

They immediately reported the matter to police, who recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for a postmortem.

Hailing from Khulna's Fultola Upazila, Farah joined the 39th Bangladesh Civil Service as an assistant surgeon.

Later, she started training in the Department of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery at Bangladesh Medical University.

A Phase B resident trainee, Farah had passed her MBBS from Sir Salimullah Medical College in 2017.

She was single and lived alone in the rented house.
