Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sazzat Ali has reminded police personnel of his order to shoot those who conduct crude bomb attacks and set fires on vehicles.

At the inauguration ceremony of the Cyber Support Centre of the DMP on Thursday to combat cybercrime and protect public safety, he said: "There is a provision in the law to shoot those who try to attack. To ensure the safety of people's lives and property, police will not hesitate to use maximum force against criminals according to the law."

Stating that police are fulfilling their responsibilities to protect the lives and property of citizens with sincerity and professionalism, Sazzat said: "The public should refrain from any comments or actions that undermine the morale of police."

The support centre launched its activities in an area adjacent to the Detective Branch Compound on the west side of the old Ramna Police Station.

The DMP chief said at the event, "With the technological advancement of the modern world, the nature of crime is also changing. Cybercrime such as cyber fraud, online cheating, digital harassment and defamation have now become major challenges to people's personal security, financial security and social stability."

Stating that the DMP has already taken initiatives to increase its capacity to ensure the cybersecurity of citizens, he said: "In continuation of this, a state-of-the-art technologically advanced cyber support centre has been established. It will have a state-of-the-art technology lab, a skilled investigation team, digital forensic experts and a 24/7 support team."

Digital security is not the sole responsibility of law-enforcing agencies, but a joint effort alongside citizens, families, educational institutions and society, he said.

He called on everyone to use digital platforms with caution and expressed his determination to build a safe city, a safe cyberspace and safe Bangladesh.

Sazzat said he hoped that citizens will now get faster and more effective services through the inauguration of this cyber support centre of the Detective Branch.

He said that victims of online harassment, particularly women and teenagers, will have the opportunity to safely report their complaints to the centre.

HOW TO REPORT A COMPLAINT

Cybercrime complaints can be reported online directly through the Cyber Support Centre's Facebook page:
