High Court Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury has urged lawyers to avoid publicly criticising the judiciary on social media immediately after verdicts are delivered.
Speaking at a discussion on Thursday, he said any order can go in favour or against a party, but appeals exist for such circumstances -- first in the appellate courts, then the High Court, and ultimately the Supreme Court if necessary.
“Please refrain from debating the judiciary on Facebook or other platforms right after a verdict. Any damage to the judiciary’s honour is also a loss of your own, as you are part of this system. Judicial work cannot proceed without lawyers,” he added.
Justice Akram also highlighted logistical challenges faced by judges, noting that a 20-storey courthouse is under consideration.
He said the chief justice has been informed that judges and lawyers are not receiving adequate support, and space constraints impede proceedings, yet judges continue to strive for efficiency.
