Gazi Sahlahuddin Tanvir, joint member secretary of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has once again been suspended from organisational duties after making a social media post concerning Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He was also served with a show-cause notice in a letter sent by the party’s central convening committee office cell on Friday.
According to the notice sent by Sadia Farzana Dina, Tanvir faces allegations of a "grave breach of organisational discipline" and making comments on social media that tarnish the party’s image.
Given the gravity of the matter, he was immediately relieved of his duties on the instructions of party Convenor Nahid Islam and Member Secretary Akhter Hossen.
In line with the party's constitution and disciplinary rules, he has been asked to submit a written defence, supporting evidence, and an explanation to the central disciplinary committee within two working days of receiving the notice, detailing why further organisational action should not be taken against him.
On Friday, Tanvir made a Facebook post blaming leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Jubo Dal for attacks and disruptions targeting NCP road marches in Habiganj and several other districts across the Sylhet Division.
He allegedly made objectionable remarks about the prime minister in that post.
Although the post was removed following intense criticism, screenshots of it circulated widely on social media.
Tanvir later published another post expressing regret for his remarks.
He told bdnews24.com, “The party might have felt that discipline was breached, which is why they served a show-cause notice.
“I do not believe I committed any breach of party discipline. I will answer the notice shortly.”
The NCP suspended Tanvir earlier on Apr 21, 2025.
At that time, he was asked to explain within seven days over allegations of unlawful interference in the appointment of deputy commissioners and taking kickbacks in textbook paper printing contracts for the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB).
