The bodies were spotted in the Sluice Gate area in Charghat Upazila on Friday morning, Samit Kumar Kundu, chief of the local police station.

The corpses were recovered around 3pm Friday, said Rajshahi Police spokesperson Additional Superintendent Ifte Khair Alam.

The bodies were found entangled with the water hyacinth, said the OC. These could not be properly identified as they were decomposed, he said.

It was not immediately clear whether the bodies came from the upstream river or were dumped there after the killings, he said.

“The three recovered bodies are of male and one of them seems to be a 50-year-old man while the other two appear to aged 40 years. They died a few days ago and the bodies must have floated downstream,” said the superintendent of police.

Police sent the bodies to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said. Police can confirm the reason behind their death once the autopsy report arrives.

Initially it appeared that four decomposed bodies were floating in the river, but later one of them was found to be a dead sheep, said Charghat Police Station chief Samit Kumar Kundu. A dead buffalo was found at the scene too, he added.
