He is scheduled to arrive on May 6 in a special flight and leave on May 8.

But the purpose of the visit amid the national elections in India is not clear.

His Bangladesh counterpart Md Shahidul Haque last week met him in New Delhi when he was campaigning for his election for the deputy director general post of the International Organisation for Migration.

An official said both sides are working on the agenda of discussion, adding that Gokhale is expected to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Haque, among others.

Gokhale visited Bangladesh last year in April soon after assuming office on Jan 29.

During the visit, he had said the bilateral cooperation with Bangladesh is based on a “win-win formula” for both countries which now host the record number of bilateral instruments.

He referred to the fact that since 2010, over 100 agreements have been signed, 68 of them in the last three years alone. The decades-old land boundary as well as maritime issues has been solved. But Teesta water sharing remained pending.
