The incident took place around 12am on Saturday in Cape Town, said his cousin Tariqul Islam.

The 29-year-old Parvez Sardar worked as a salesman at a shop in Cape Town after migrating to South Africa in December, 2017 in search of better livelihood.

A local gang of extortionists had harrassed Parvez for money a few days ago, according to Tariqul.

“After he refused, four assailants entered the shop and shot him dead before fleeing the scene. Parvez died on the spot.”

Earlier on Mar 2, a relative of Parvez's relative Zahir was also hacked to death by local criminals, said his uncle Sumon Ahmed, who is also residing in Cape Town.

His family has sought cooperation from the Bangladesh mission in South Africa and the government to bring his body back to Bangladesh immediately.
