Speaking at a seminar on Tuesday, Planning Minister MA Mannan said international community needs to come forward to resolve the crisis.

“Myanmar must take back Rohingyas from Bangladesh ensuring their all rights, including citizenship,” he said. “It’s not possible for Bangladesh to resolve the complex problem alone.”

Director General of the foreign ministry’s Southeast Asia wing Delwar Hossain said: “We expect more engagement of the international community so that Myanmar feels compelled to react in a decisive manner to create conducive environment so that their people can go back at the earliest possible.”

They were speaking at two different sessions at a seminar titled “Rohingya Crisis-Global Challenge” at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB).

IDEB President AKMA Hamid who presided over the seminar said the international community must put pressure on Myanmar so that it pays compensation for the Rohingyas.

He also called upon the neighbouring countries to play a role in resolving the problem.

Over 1.1 million Rohingyas are living in Bangladesh including the recent arrivals of over 700,000 who fled ‘ethnic cleansing’ in the Rakhine State.
