Gazipur Superintendent of Police Shamsunnahar cited arrest warrants in seven cases started at different police stations in Dhaka metropolitan areas for the move.

Based on those warrants, Milon was arrested by the detective police in his village in Gazipur’s Kaliganj Upazila on Thursday afternoon.

Milon's lawyer Parvin Akhter and his wife Shampa Haque told reporters that there were 33 cases against Milon. He was on bail in all the cases, they said.

Police arrested him when he returned home after securing bail in the last case in the High Court on Thursday, they said.

“Police told us that they made the arrest on orders from the high-up. He had not been visiting Gazipur for some days fearing arrest after police had raided his home in Dhaka,” Shampa said.

Police said they also arrested two members of the campaign committee of the BNP’s Jatiya Oikya Front alliance candidate for Gazipur-3, Iqbal Siddiquee, in a violence-related case early in the morning.

The arrestees are Gazipur District BNP Vice-President Humayun Kabir and Abdul Motaleb, a former leader of its Sripur Upazila unit.

The charges against them include torching a motorcycle at Rajendrapur on Sept 25, Sripur Police Station Sub-Inspector Mahmudul Hasan said.
