Two brothers beaten to death over land dispute in Sirajganj

Two brothers have been beaten to death in Sirajganj over a land dispute.

The dead have been identified as Milton Hossain, 32, and his younger brother Kawsar Hossain, 23, the sons of Antaj Ali from Purba Kodalia village in Chauhali Upazila.

There was a long-running dispute between Antaj Ali and local Rafiqul Islam Bakul over land, said Zainal Abedin, an uncle of the victims.

“Rafiqul, along with his accomplices, beat Kawsar after inviting him to visit his house on Friday. When he heard of this, Kawsar’s elder brother Milton and other relatives rushed to the spot, only to come under attack. Kawsar died in his way to hospital while Milton died around 1pm on Saturday while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.”

Police were dispatched to the scene after the violence was reported.

Shirin Sultana, the wife of Rafiqul Islam and a member of the local union council, has been arrested in connection with the murder of the two siblings, said Jahangir Alam, chief of Chauhali Police Station.

The mother of the victims filed a case against five people over the murders, Alam said, adding that police are working to arrest the perpetrators.
