India signs MoUs for new school buildings in Chittagong Hill Tracts

The High Commission of India has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for three new development projects under Indian grant assistance.

All three projects are in very remote areas of Chittagong Hill Tracts.

These involve construction of four-storey India-Bangladesh Friendship Building each in Matamuhuri Junior High School in Bandarban’s Ali Kadam, Thega Khubbang High School, in Rangamati’s Barkal and Gachban Junior High School in Khagrhachharhi.

The building in Rangamati’s Barkal will be the first four-storey academic building in the area, the high commission said in a statement on Monday.

The total estimated cost of these projects is Tk 58.5 million. The projects will be fully funded by government of India, it added.

High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, President of the Governing Body of the Matamuhuri Junior High School U Ui Chara Bhikkhu, Headmaster of the Thega Khubbang High School Jitendra Chakma, and Headmaster of the Gachban Junior High School Bhupati Chakma, were present at the signing ceremony.

India has been supporting development projects in Bangladesh in sectors such as education, health, water, culture, urban development, and disaster management, among others.
