The incident took place along the Kantibhita border at Amjankhor union in Baliadangi Upazila on early Saturday, said Lt Col Tuhin Mohammad Masud, commanding officer of Thakurgaon BGB-50 team.

The dead man has been identified as 25-year-old Rabbani, a resident of Tarangu Bari village in Baliadangi.

“Rabbani and several others were illegally crossing the border on Saturday,” said Tuhin citing the locals.

“The BSF opened fire on them from India’s Hatkhola camp, killing Rabbani. The others fled from the scene immediately.”

The BGB has called for a meeting to demand the return of his body, Tuhin said.
