Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met with her Nepalese counterpart KP Sharma Oli in Kathmandu on Thursday.
“Both the prime ministers have discussed the bilateral and regional issues. They have stressed the development of trade, investment and the power sector," said Hasina’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim after the meeting.
Hasina reached Nepal for a two-day visit to participate in the fourth summit of Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation or BIMSTEC on Thursday.
She also mentioned the offer to Nepal to use the Syedpur airport and the seaports in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh can share its experience of disaster management with Nepal, Hasina said.
"We need to identify the areas of cooperation," Karim said citing the prime minister of Nepal.
Oli also expressed his satisfaction over Hasina’s visit to Nepal to attend the summit.
Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding with Nepal to increase cooperation in the power sector and speed up the process of importing hydropower from Nepal.
Under the agreement, besides the import of hydroelectricity from Nepal to India, there are also issues related to investment in the power sector of Nepal's government or private companies of Nepal. The deal also includes investments by Bangladesh in Nepal’s power sector.
Besides, Hasina emphasises expanding regional connectivity among Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and India.
After the Nepalese prime minister, Bhutan's Chief Adviser of the interim government Lyonpo Tshering Wangchuk called on Hasina. They discussed the bilateral issues at the meeting.
