Hasina watches Saudi-led military exercise

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has witnessed the closing parade and ceremony of Gulf Shield 1, the joint military drill of 24 countries in the Saudi Arabia-led coalition.

King Salman Bin Abdulaziz welcomed Hasina when she reached the venue at Jubail in the Eastern Province in the Gulf kingdom on Monday. 

The drills, considered to be one of largest in the region, aim to ensure security and peace in the region in joint efforts.

The other participants are the US, UK, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, Mauritania, Malaysia, Pakistan, Chad, Djibouti, Niger, Comoros, Afghanistan, Oman, Guyana, Turkey, and Burkina Faso.

An 18-member team from Bangladesh military has taken part in the month-long drill.

Brig Gen Abdullah Al-Subaie, the spokesperson for the Gulf Shield 1, said the members of army, air force and navy of the 24 countries joined the drill.

After attending the closing ceremony, Hasina will fly out for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) London 2018 at the invitation of British Prime Minister Theresa May.

She is scheduled to return home on Apr 23.
