According to Dr Shamsuzzaman, the chief of the medical board formed for his care, Rajib began experiencing difficulty breathing at the ICU around 4am on Tuesday. He also seemed less ‘conscious’ of his surroundings.

“This happens in the case of a head injury. Rajib had broken bones in the front and back of the head. The front of the brain was also affected. We have now put him on life support.”

The undergraduate student lost his arm on Apr 3 due to the reckless driving of two buses belonging to BTRC and Swajan Paribahan. The arm was crushed between the two buses and severed above the elbow.

Rajib was first admitted to Panthapath’s Samorita Hospital. He was then transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and a medical board was formed for his care.

On Apr 6, Dr Shamsuzzaman had said that Rajib would not require head surgery, but that he would need a few more surgeries on the arm.
