Bangladesh to celebrate developing nation status Thursday

Bangladesh will celebrate its graduation from the LDC or least developed country to a developing nation on Thursday with a great deal of fanfare.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina would kick off the day’s events with a meeting at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital in the morning, followed by a series of colourful parades across the city.

A total of 57 ministries would take out the processions from nine designated places in Dhaka in the afternoon that will end up in Bangabandhu National Stadium where a cultural show would be held in the evening. The prime minister is scheduled to attend the soiree.

A total of 20 digital display units would be placed outside the stadium so that the people can watch the show.

Some private and educational institutions will also take part in the processions.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police have said there would be traffic disruptions in the area from 2pm to 6pm.
